5 Simple Shifts That Helped Me Start Healing My Body (Again)
Because healing isn’t a straight line — and that’s okay.
Some months feel like they pull the rug out from under you. May was one of those for me.
There haven’t been any major health setbacks, just a growing weight from too many changes at once. Between caring for my sweet dog Penney and navigating the stress of a 9–5 that no longer aligns with the life I’m working to create, I started feeling stretched thin.
It wasn’t physical pain. It was the emotional and energetic kind that slowly builds and quietly drains you.
I knew I needed to shift. Not in a big, dramatic way; but, in small, loving steps back toward myself. If you’ve been feeling the same, these five simple shifts might help you begin again, too.
1. Starting My Mornings With Stillness
Not my phone. Not email. Just stillness.
Some mornings that meant journaling with a warm cup of tea. Other days, it was a few slow breaths while standing barefoot on the balcony. That pause - before the rush - helped calm my nervous system and made space for intention.
Try this: Spend 2–3 minutes tomorrow morning just sitting quietly with your breath. Let negative thoughts pass like clouds.
2. Choosing to Nourish Instead of Restrict
It’s easy to fall into restriction when we feel like we’ve fallen behind; but, our bodies need nourishment, not punishment.
I stopped thinking about what I “shouldn’t” eat and focused on what I could add to support healing: leafy greens, berries, grounding grains, warming teas. The shift from scarcity to abundance helped my body, and my mindset, feel more supported.
Try this: Add one healing food to your day this week. Even a small sprinkle of flaxseeds or a cup of herbal tea makes a difference.
3. Making Movement Gentle and Joyful
Some days I skipped movement entirely, which used to feel like failure. But I realized I didn’t need a “workout.” I needed connection.
A walk with Penney. A few yoga stretches. A ten-minute Pilates flow. These gentle movements helped me feel more alive without pushing too hard.
Try this: Ask your body, “What would feel good today?” Even 5–10 minutes of light movement counts.
4. Reconnecting With My Purpose
When life feels heavy, it’s easy to lose sight of your “why.” But purpose has a way of reigniting energy.
For me, that meant slowly returning to the heart of my work, supporting others in healing through small, sustainable shifts. Creating digital wellness tools, coaching resources, and simply showing up again reminded me that this mission still matters deeply to me.
Try this: Write down one reason your healing matters. Let it become your daily anchor.
5. Letting Myself Begin Again (Without Shame)
This might be the most important shift of all.
Healing is never a perfect, linear journey. We pause. We restart. We grow a little more each time.
I gave myself permission to begin again. Without guilt, without shame. Just a soft reset with love at the center. You can, too.
Try this: Say out loud, “It’s safe to begin again.” And let that be enough for today.
