Releasing the Heavy Things So You Can Move Forward Lighter
Salute to Wellness – Year End Reflection Series, Week 2
There’s a quiet heaviness that tends to settle in at the end of the year.
It’s not always obvious at first.
It can feel like lingering tension in your shoulders.
A tired exhale you didn’t realize you were holding.
A sense that you’re carrying more than you want to bring with you into the next chapter.
Before we talk about beginnings, I want to make space for endings.
Not dramatic ones.
Not forceful ones.
Just the gentle kind that allow you to breathe a little easier.
Because sometimes, the most nourishing thing we can do is let something go.
You Don’t Have to Carry Everything Forward
There’s a lot of pressure this time of year to reflect, reset, and reinvent yourself all at once.
To identify your flaws.
To make a plan.
To fix what didn’t work.
But what if the invitation right now isn’t to add more…
What if it’s to release what’s been weighing you down?
Not everything that followed you through this year needs to come with you into the next one.
Some expectations can be laid down.
Some rules can be softened.
Some stories can be rewritten.
You’re allowed to choose lightness.
What I’m Gently Letting Go Of
This year taught me a lot, both personally and inside Salute to Wellness.
I’m letting go of the idea that growth has to be fast to be meaningful.
I’m releasing rigid timelines that don’t account for real life, real bodies, and real nervous systems.
I’m loosening my grip on perfection, especially when it comes to showing up, creating, and caring for myself.
I’m choosing to trust steadiness over urgency.
Consistency over intensity.
Support over self-criticism.
Letting go hasn’t made me less committed.
It’s made me more grounded.
And that kind of grounding changes everything.
Why Releasing Matters for Healing
Holding onto too much keeps the body in a quiet state of alert.
The nervous system stays braced.
The mind stays busy.
The body never quite feels safe enough to soften.
Healing doesn’t thrive in pressure.
It needs space.
Gentleness.
Permission.
When we release what isn’t serving us anymore, we send a powerful message to the body:
You are safe to rest now.
And from that place, clarity and energy begin to return.
A Gentle Release Practice
You don’t need a long ritual or a perfect journal page to begin releasing.
Just a few honest moments with yourself.
If you’re open to it, try answering one or two of these questions slowly, without judgment:
• What expectations of myself felt heavy this year?
You don’t need to solve them. Just notice.
• What “rules” around health, productivity, or success am I ready to soften?
Rigid rules often create more stress than support.
• What would feel like a relief to let go of before the new year begins?
Relief is a powerful guide.
If emotions surface, that’s okay.
Release often comes with both grief and freedom.
Making Space for What Actually Nourishes You
Letting go creates room.
Room for steadier energy.
Room for gentler routines.
Room for nourishment that doesn’t feel like a performance.
Inside Salute to Wellness, my focus moving forward is on creating that kind of space for you.
Support that feels calm instead of overwhelming.
Guidance that meets you where you are, not where you think you should be.
As the year winds down, my hope is that you’ll choose to put one heavy thing down.
Just one.
You don’t have to do it perfectly.
You don’t have to explain it to anyone else.
You just have to choose yourself.
Before the calendar turns and new intentions begin to form, take a moment to notice what you’ve been carrying.
And then, with as much kindness as you can muster, ask yourself:
Is this still mine to carry?
Whatever you choose to release, know this:
You are not falling behind.
You are creating space for a lighter, steadier way forward.
Next week, we’ll turn toward the quiet wins and unseen progress that deserve to be honored.
For now, breathe.
Soften.
Let go…even just a little.
I’m glad you’re here.
