Hello, lovely friend.
This post is going live on a Saturday, which is a little unusual for me, but I’ve received so many questions about what I use on my skin in midlife that it felt like the perfect moment to share.
For years, I relied on a well-known skincare line, and my skin did well with it. Then, somewhere in my 40s, things shifted. My skin became drier, more sensitive, and less responsive to products that once worked beautifully. What I needed was not more steps or stronger actives, but gentler support, deeper hydration, and routines that felt calming instead of corrective.
What follows is the simple, soothing system I now use to care for my skin in this season of life.
Morning Routine
Gentle Cleanse
I start with either La Roche-Posay Toleriane Dermo-Cleanser or Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Water. Both cleanse without stripping and leave my skin feeling calm and comfortable.
Refresh & Calm
A light mist of Avène Eau Thermale Spring Water Spray helps soothe and prep my skin. It feels like a soft exhale for my face.
Serum Support
La Roche-Posay Hyalu B5 Serum brings in hydration and plumpness. A few drops pressed gently into the skin makes such a difference in softness and glow.
Moisture & Comfort
Vichy LiftActiv Supreme is my daytime moisturizer. It hydrates well without feeling heavy and gives mature skin that supported, nourished feeling.
Eye Care
I finish with Avène Soothing Eye Contour Cream to keep the delicate under-eye area comfortable and hydrated.
Evening Routine
Double Cleanse (When Needed)
I remove makeup or sunscreen with Bioderma Sensibio H2O, then follow with La Roche-Posay Toleriane Dermo-Cleanser.
Thermal Mist
Another spritz of Avène Thermal Water helps calm the skin and prepare it for nighttime care.
Hydrating Serum
Again, Hyalu B5 Serum for overnight moisture support.
Retinol or Repair Nights
A few evenings a week, I use Avène RetrinAL 0.1 Intensive Cream for gentle retinoid support. On alternate nights, I switch to Caudalie Resveratrol-Lift Night Cashmere Cream for rich, comforting hydration.
Eye & Lip Care
I apply Avène Soothing Eye Contour Cream and finish with the LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask to keep lips soft and nourished.
Collagen Mask Nights: A Weekly Skin Ritual
Once or twice a week, I create what I call Collagen Mask Night. It is not about chasing youth or fixing flaws. It is about giving my skin, and myself, a moment of deep care.
Biodance Bio-Collagen Real Deep Mask
This hydrogel collagen mask is wonderfully soothing and hydrating. I love how it hugs the skin and leaves my face feeling plumped, calm, and well-rested. It is especially lovely when my skin feels dry, tired, or dull.
Maysama LED Light Therapy Mask
On these evenings, or sometimes on a separate night, I also use my Maysama LED Light Therapy Mask. Red and near-infrared light support circulation, collagen activity, and overall skin vitality. I treat it like a quiet meditation, letting the light and stillness do their work.
A cup of herbal tea, soft music, and 15 minutes of stillness turns this into a full nervous-system reset, not just a skincare step.
Weekly Skin Support
Hydration Boost
Collagen mask nights provide deep surface hydration and a healthy glow.
Neck & Décolletage Care
I massage Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse into my neck and chest for nourishment and softness.
Gentle Exfoliation
Once a week, a mild lactic acid or enzyme exfoliant helps remove dull skin cells without irritation.
Skincare Wisdom for Women Over 45
Prioritize hydration over harsh actives.
Choose soothing, barrier-supporting formulas.
Extend care to the neck and chest.
Introduce retinoids slowly and gently.
Create rituals, not routines that feel like chores.
Remember that calm skin often begins with a calm nervous system.
Your skin does not need to be fixed. It needs to be supported, nourished, and treated with patience and kindness.
Stay radiant, friends, and enjoy the rest of your weekend!
